After my graduation as an experimental psychologist at the University of Ghent (Belgium), I worked as a research assistant at the University of Antwerp. In 1994 I joined Philips Research in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.
My research focuses on user modelling and psychometrics. Since 1999 I am leading a research team that works on the development, prototyping and testing of user interface concepts in the Consumer Electronics, Personal Healthcare and Lighting application domain. The team has experience in the area of multi-modal, personalized and networked systems. Since the completion of the HomeLab at the Philips Research headquarters in Eindhoven, I am playing a key role in the testing activities taking place inside this facility.

In the context of my activities at Philips Research I generated some patents, participated in EU projects and was involved in different conferences. An incomplete list of students I have been coaching.
Since 2002 I am a member of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology. In 2005 I joined the Gerontological Society of America. In 2006 I joined the American Psychological Association.
On 22 December 2010, I received my PhD at the University of Eindhoven. The thesis is titled Social Interactions in Ambient Intelligent Environments.
